Successful events don’t just happen. Whether you are a small business planning your grand opening event or a professional event planner managing a large conference, the success of your event is based on your ability to plan and pay attention to details.

Here is a tip that you can use to plan a successful event and send your attendees home talking about it for days to come:

Think about who your target attendee audience is and build relationships and strategic partnerships to help promote your event.

If you have a limited marketing budget to promote your event, work with other organizations on a barter basis. Offer to help promote one of their events and/or initiatives in return for promoting your event.

You may think that your local newspaper isn’t interested in talking to you unless you have money to spend. However, you don’t know until you ask and, most of the time, other companies are looking to do exactly the same thing you are: get the word out there about their business (on a budget).

Get creative with your barters. For example, if you have a great email list of all your customers perhaps that local newspaper would be interested in having you send out an email blast to your list on their behalf promoting a new feature they are introducing. In exchange, they could offer you a listing in their events calendar or a write-up in the goings on about town section.
